Extremely rare ice cream service or caviar bowl in sterling silver and crystal in the Empire style, dating from the second half of the nineteenth century. On the silver mounts there are remnants of vermeil and the French guarantee hallmark " head of Mercury" for the highest alloy of silver 950% . This hallmark was struck on goldsmithery intended for export. The three clear crystal parts are intact and are very elegantly cut. These sorbet or caviar sets were used as a sort of frozen bain-marie, where the sorbet or caviar was placed in the large bowl filled with crushed ice or icy water.

🇫🇷 Sorbetière ou service à caviar, France Vers 1880-1900, argent massif et cristal.
Cette rarissime sorbetière ou rafraîchissoir à caviar en argent massif et cristal dans le style Empire, date de la deuxième moitié du XIXè siècle .
Sur les montures en argent, on trouve des restant de vermeil et le poinçon de garantie français "à la tête de Mercure " pour le premier titre d'argent. Ce poinçon était apposé sur les orfèvreries destinées à l'exportation.
Les trois parties en cristal incolore sont intactes et sont taillées de façon très élégante. Cette set est une sorte de bain-marie glacé où le bol à sorbet ou à caviar est déposé dans le grand bol rempli de glace concassée ou d'eau glaciale.
