Covered beer tankard, XXth, solid silver
🇬🇧. Impressive solid silver covered beer tankard. It is in the style of the seventeenth century but dates from the beginning of the twentieth. The only clue to its origin: a 1906 medal commemorating Norway's independence. In 1905 the Storting, the Norwegian parliament, voted the end of the personal union which bound the Norwegian kingdom to the king of Sweden since 1814. The Norwegians proposed the crown to the Danish prince Charles who accepted and took the name of Haakon VII to begin his reign on the Norwegian throne. Its lid and its body are decorated with typically Baroque plant motifs. It rests on three resting crowned lions, symbols of royal power. It is the ideal drinking vessel for enjoying a fine Belgian brown beer.

🇫🇷 Impressionnante chope à bière couverte en argent massif. Elle est dans le style du dix-septième siècle mais date du début du vingtième.
Seul indice de son origine: une médaille de 1906 commémorant l'indépendance de la Norvège en 1905.
En 1905 le Storting , le parlement norvégien, vota la fin de l'union personnelle qui liait le royaume norvégien au roi de Suède depuis 1814.
Les norvégiens proposèrent la couronne au prince danois Charles qui accepta et prit le nom de Haakon VII pour commencer son règne sur le trône norvégien.
Son couvercle et son corps son décorés de motifs végétaux typiquement baroques. Elle repose sur trois lions couronnés au repos, symboles du pouvoir royal.
