Sauceboat that belonged to Sarah Bernhardt, Odiot 1890-1900, sterling silver

🇬🇧Here is an extremely rare historical memorabilium from the most famous actress of the nineteenth century, Sarah Bernhardt, byname the Divine Sarah. This sumptuous Louis XVI style gravy boat is made in the purest neoclassical style by the Odiot workshop at the end of the nineteenth century and was probably part of a large set of silver plates and dishes in service in the mansion of this great actress. On either side of the gravy boat are on the edge of the frame her initials in solid gold enhanced by a banner on which is written her personal motto "Quand Même". For her despite everything, the theatre life was a way of living that demanded your all. Despite everything, life was worth living to the fullest. The initials are crowned with a Greek theatrical mask, a sword and a hobbyhorse. The gravy boat still has its sterling silver lining. Its weight is 1145 grams.

🇫🇷Cette somptueuse saucière de style Louis XVI est fabriquée dans le plus pur style néoclassique par la maison Odiot à la fin du dix-neuvième siècle et faisait probablement partie d'un grand ensemble de platerie d'argent en service dans l'hôtel particulier de cet grande actrice .
De part et d'autre de la saucière se trouvent sur le bord du dormant ses initiales en or massif rehaussées d'une banderole sur laquelle est écrit sa devise "Quand Même" . Devise qu'elle aimait repeter et qui fesait écho à son audace et au fait que la vie de théâtre était un mode de vie qui exigeait tout. Tout comme la vie valait la peine d'être vécue à fond. Les initiales sont sommées d'un masque de théâtre grec, d'un glaive et d'une marotte.
La saucière possède encore toujours sa doublure en argent massif.
