Pair of candlesticks, Dôle, 1759, Joseph Opinel, sterling silver
🇬🇧Very elegant pair of candlesticks known as "with sides" in solid silver with the hallmark of the city of Dôle and the master silversmith Joseph Opinel, of which a mustard pot from the same year is kept by the Metropolitan Museum in New York. They bear the date letter T crowned for the year 1759. With their height of 21 cm they could be classified as office candlesticks or toilet candlesticks. Rather heavy for their size, they weigh 924 grams.
They are booth engraved with a coat of arms and count's coronet of the first owner.

🇫🇷 Très élégante paire de bougeoirs dits "à pans" en argent massif au poinçon de la ville de Dôle et du maître orfèvre Joseph Opinel dont un moutardier de la même année est conservé par le Metropolitan Muséum à New-York. Ils portent la lettre date T couronné pour l'année 1759.
Avec leurs 21 cm de hauteur ils pourraient être catalogués de bougeoirs de bureau ou bougeoirs de toilette.
Plutôt massifs pour leur taille, ils pèsent 924 grammes.
Sur le pied de chacun se trouve une armoirie gravée d'époque sommée d'une couronne comtale.
Y figurent sur un écu d'azur au chevron d'argent, trois étoiles d'argent à cinq rais avec en chef trois petites flammes.
