🇬🇧Sumptuous pair of two very large "torpedo" serving dishes in sterling silver from the Napoleon III period engraved with the monogram of King Farouk I of Egypt (1920-1965). They are decorated with a guilloché engraving vers typical for the production of Parisian goldsmiths intended for wealthy clients of the Ottoman Empire during the Napoleon III period. Probably ordered by one of King Farouk's predecessors around 1870, their royal monogram was adapted at the start of the reign of the new monarch in 1936. King Farouk succeeded his father at the age of sixteen, inheriting not only the crown but also a vast fortune of over a hundred million dollars, countless palaces and more or less a seventh of the fertile land of his country. Badly surrounded and badly advised, the young king, an almost Hollywood figure will be a bad strategist. He will chain bad decisions and end his life in exile in Europe, chased by Nasser. After his abdication, the new powers of his country organized large auctions of thousands of the king's treasures and collections. It was probably at this time that those dishes entered the international antique trade. The pair weighs 3400 grams.

🇫🇷 Somptueuse paire de deux très grands plats de service "torpillé"en argent massif d'époque Napoléon III gravées au monogramme du roi Farouk I d'Égypte (1920-1965). Ils sont décorés d'une gravure guillochée typique pour la production des orfèvres parisiens destinés aux riches clients de l'Empire Ottoman pendant la période Napoléon III. Probablement commandés par un des prédécesseurs du Roi Farouk vers 1870, leur monogramme royal a été adapté au début du règne du nouveau monarque en 1936. Le roi Farouk succéda à son père à l'âge de seize ans, héritant non seulement la couronne mais aussi d'une vaste fortune de plus de cent million de dollars, d'innombrables palais et de plus ou moins un septième de la terre fertile de son pays.
Le jeune roi, figure presque hollywoodienne, connaîtra un parcours houleux. Mal entouré, mal conseillé et mauvais stratège il enchaînera les mauvaises décisions et finira, chassé par Nasser, sa vie en exil en Europe.
Après son abdication, les nouveaux pouvoirs de son pays organisèrent des grandes ventes aux enchères des milliers de trésors et collections du roi. C'est probablement à ce moment là que ces plats prirent le chemin du commerce d'antiquités international. La paire pèse 3400 grammes .
