Pair of Regency candlesticks, Paris 1717, chiseled, sterling silver

🇬🇧 Sumptuous pair of Regency period candlesticks in sterling silver. They are octagonal and decorated with large gadroons and a regency period decoration chiseled on a mat background. Exquisitely refined, they nevertheless exhibit a certain robustness and solidity due to their proportions and significant weight (1138 grams). In the base of the domme of the foot , is on each, a heraldic engraving representing a coat of arms with, in chief, three silver stars on gules background and below two lions facing each other on a background of azure. We find on each, the hallmarks of the city of Paris for the year 1717 inside the foot -on the edge- and inside the binets (see photos). The goldsmith's mark is affixed several times on the inside of the foot and in the binets but is unfortunately not legible. Nevertheless we can guess the pattern of the hallmark: a crowned fleur-de-lys with two initials - but they are unfortunately illegible. The other hallmarks are very clear and legible. A pair of candlesticks of this age and quality is very rare on the market.

🇫🇷 Somptueuse paire de flambeaux d'époque Régence en argent massif.

Ils sont octogonaux et décorés de larges godrons et d'un décor d'époque Régence ciselé sur un fond amati.

D'un raffinement exquis, ils présentent néanmoins une certaine robustesse et solidité dues à leurs proportions et poids important (1138 grammes).

Dans le creux de l'ombilic, se trouve sur chacun, une gravure héraldique représentant un blason avec, en chef, trois étoiles d’argent sur fond de gueules et en-dessous deux lions s'affrontant sur fond d'azur. On trouve sur chacun, les poinçons de ville de Paris pour l'année 1717 à l'intérieur de l'ombilic , sur le bord du pied et à l'intérieur des binets ( voir photos). Le poinçon de l'orfèvre est apposé à plusieurs reprises sur l'intérieur de l'ombilic et dans les binets mais est malheureusement pas lisible. On devine néanmoins le schéma du poinçon: une fleur de lys couronnée et accompagnée de deux initiales mais elles sont malheureusement illisibles. Une paire de flambeaux de cette qualité est très rare sur le marché.

🇳🇱 Een stel zilveren kandelaars op achtkantige voet, in Regency stijl in massief zilver. Ze zijn versierd met grote gadroons en een decor uit de Regency-periode, gebeiteld op een matte achtergrond. We vinden op elk de kenmerken van de stad Parijs voor het jaar 1717. Het goudsmidmerk is meerdere keren aangebracht aan de binnenkant van maar is helaas niet leesbaar. Toch kunnen we het patroon van het keurmerk raden: een fleur-de-lis gekroond en vergezeld van twee initialen, maar die zijn helaas onleesbaar.
