🇬🇧 Tulip beaker, Meaux, woman silversmith Catherine de Combles, widow Brissot, 1774-1780

Rare goblet with the maker's mark of a woman-goldsmith in Meaux, Catherine de Comble widow Brissot, hallmark of the generality of Paris for 1774-1780, hallmark for discharging small works with the head of a monkey. The demand for silver increased in the late 17th century and several women worked under their husband’s hallmark. Indeed, they were only allowed to register their own hallmark if their husband died.
